The first episode of Season 1 of "Game of Thrones" is titled "Winter is Coming" and serves as an introduction to the world of Westeros, acquainting the audience with key characters and political intrigues.
The North and The Wall
The episode opens beyond The Wall, a massive ice structure protecting the Seven Kingdoms from threats from the far north. Three members of the Night's Watch stumble upon a horrifying scene: bodies strangely arranged in mystical patterns. One of the scouts witnesses an attack by the White Walkers and reanimated corpses. He flees south to warn others. However, in Winterfell, the Stark family finds him as a deserter, as leaving the Night's Watch is forbidden. Lord Eddard "Ned" Stark personally carries out the execution, beheading him to teach his children an example of honor and responsibility. On the way home, the Starks find six direwolves — the symbol of their house — and decide to take them in. Each child gets a wolf, including Ned's illegitimate son, Jon Snow.
The South and King's Landing
In the South, in the capital King's Landing, King Robert Baratheon arrives in Winterfell to offer Ned the position of his Hand (right hand). The king is accompanied by his family and allies: Queen Cersei Lannister, her brothers Jaime and Tyrion Lannister, and their sons, including the heir to the throne, Joffrey Baratheon. Robert and Ned are old friends, but the political situation is tense: the previous Hand, Jon Arryn, died under mysterious circumstances. Robert suspects a conspiracy, especially from the influential and ambitious Lannister family.
The Lannisters
The Lannister family is already showing its treacherous nature. In secret, Cersei and her twin brother Jaime Lannister are in an incestuous relationship. They fear their secret will be exposed, especially if Ned becomes the Hand.
Winterfell
Winterfell is a place of family comfort for the Starks, but dark clouds are beginning to gather over it. When the royal family arrives, tensions between the characters rise. Tyrion Lannister, the dwarf, displays wit and sarcasm, while Joffrey, the young prince, shows his cruelty and arrogance. Meanwhile, Ned's youngest son, Bran Stark, becomes a witness to Jaime and Cersei having sex in a ruined tower. To preserve their secret, Jaime pushes Bran from the tower, saying: "The things we do for love." Bran falls from a great height, leaving the episode on a tense note.
Dragons and Exiles
On the other side of the world, across the Narrow Sea, the events focus on Viserys and Daenerys Targaryen, the last heirs of the Targaryen dynasty, overthrown by Robert Baratheon. Viserys plans his return to the throne and marries his sister to the Dothraki warlord Khal Drogo, hoping to gain his army for conquering Westeros. Daenerys appears submissive and subdued, but signs of inner strength begin to show. On the day of her wedding, she receives three dragon eggs as a gift, hinting at the role of magic and dragons in the future.
